Why is good coffee so expensive?2022-02-15T06:59:58+00:00
  1. Weather and pest related problems affecting the growth and harvest of crops i.e., drought in Brazil, excessive rain in Vietnam, fungus damage in Central America, and beetle infestations in Africa. All of which are some of the world’s largest producers of coffee beans. In addition,  available farmland suitable for coffee growth around the globe is decreasing.
  2. Problems with transportation in Columbia due to anti-government and workers’ rights protests, and in Vietnam secondary to the rising cost of shipping from the global pandemic.
  3. Labor shortages from problems with immigration, industrialization, and civil unrest have led to the need to increase worker benefits and wages.
  4. Most importantly you can taste the wonderful difference from coffee made from expertly processed and roasted coffee beans to the coffee made from low-grade mixes of beans that have no discernable character and taste exactly the same every time, and quality will always cost regardless of the product.
Why is shipping so expensive?2022-02-15T07:00:59+00:00
  1. Fuel costs from overseas and then from state to state are expensive and products often need to be shipped by plane, boat, and trucks to get to your doorstep. International shipping rates are at an all-time high mostly due to the disruption in supply chains caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Suez Canal Incident in March 2021.
  2. The overhead costs for shipping are some of the highest for any industry and will include vehicle maintenance, fuel, training, inspections, employee wages and benefits, communication, and insurance. These costs are currently aggravated by a global shipping container shortage.
  3. Couriers add overhead and Value-added services to their contracts that may include among others; residential fees, area surcharges, and address correction fees.
Why don’t you sell K-Cups?2022-02-15T07:02:04+00:00
  1. K-Cups are made of plastic, a filter, grounds, and a plastic foil top all of which end up in our landfills contributing to the further destruction of environment.
  2. Plastics and glue components from the K-Cups end up in your coffee and are arguably not good for your health.
  3. The coffee in a K-Cup is stale. Coffee starts oxidizing immediately after roasting and even further once it is ground leading to a change in taste. Coffee in K-Cups have already lost some freshness by the time it’s packaged.
  4. It is expensive, an article in the New York times reported the coffee in the K-Cup comes out to almost 50 dollars a pound.
What are the major types of coffee beans?2022-02-15T07:02:57+00:00
  1. Coffee Robusto beans are a lower grade of bean grown at lower altitudes that are easier to maintain and more resistant to disease than other types of coffee beans so produce more. These beans tend to have a greater concentration of caffeine leading to a harsher, more bitter taste than other beans and are found in most mass-produced lower end and expresso blend brands.
  2. Coffee Arabica beans are considered gourmet beans as they have a smother, sweeter taste, but are much more difficult to grow. These beans reportedly make up more than 60% of coffee beans sold worldwide and include popular types like Typica, Caturra, Kona, Pacamara, and Villalobos.
  3. Liberica Coffee Beans are native to central and western Africa often mixed with other varieties to add body and complexity. It receives mixed reviews ranging from burnt garbage to nutty wood flavor with a backbite. It is now mainly produced in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines making up 2% of the world’s coffee supply at not commonly found in North America or Europe.
  4. Excelsa Coffee Beans the fourth major type of coffee bean is grown almost entirely in Southeast Asia. Also used in blends to add complexity these beans are found to have less caffeine and aroma with tart notes and fruity overtones. Seldom found outside of Asia they may be obtained from specialty roasters in other locations.
What is the best way to store coffee?2022-02-15T07:03:38+00:00

Our roast masters recommend keeping your coffee in the bag in which it is shipped if you do not have an airtight container. Store the coffee in a cool dry place like a cabinet away from moisture, heat, and light to ensure freshness and optimal flavor. Avoid storing it in a refrigerator or freezer as this can lead to condensation on the beans.  If you prefer, keep your coffee in an opaque airtight container on the counter while avoiding locations that get warm from the stove or heated from the sun.

How often should I clean my coffee maker?2022-02-15T07:04:24+00:00

Coffee makers are frequently moist and warm making them the perfect environment for mold growth. Always follow manufacturers instructions and consider cleaning your coffee machines monthly to ensure healthy, great tasting coffee.

How do I remove a coffee stain?2022-02-15T07:05:17+00:00
  1. Your best chance for removing coffee stains is while they are still wet. Blot the stain with a paper towel or cloth to remove the excess liquid and then rinse in cold water.
  2. With stubborn coffee stain try adding a small amount of laundry detergent, rub it on, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse.
  3. White vinegar, water, and detergent may be mixed into a paste and rubbed on the stain. Scrub the stain and then completely rinse out the fabric. Note that this method may cause discoloration in some clothing, so check the clothing label or test on an inconspicuous part of the fabric first.
